The legends did what they do best again in the Season 4 finale - "being the chainsaw" according to Rip Hunter. Stopped Ne-Ray (Neron in Ray's body) and Tabitha in style and even teased more fun for the next season (Vandal Savage might be back.. π)
After discovering that Ne-Ray (Neron in Ray's body) and Tabitha planned to use fear as a source of energy to open the gateway to hell where the people who have downloaded his weird app will be sent there and his goons from over there will come over. The legends planned to fight fear in the most hilarious of ways using a magical book that lets whatever a user draws in it to come to life; Nate whipped up HeyWorld! (a fantasy theme park that his Dad wanted to create for him). The plan was for humans to come to the park to understand that magical creatures shouldn't be feared. Using the reputation of what was called the trinity (Supergirl, Green Arrow and Flash), they managed to invite lots of people to come to the park and gave a very unrealistic and hilarious programme strengthening the roots of the show in unending comedy. Something the Monitor went all smh on and even had some popcorn..π One bit of setback in this episode based on how things had been going was Zari's disappearance π. Due to her younger self's attachment to the dragon and the theme park proving that not all magical creatures are evil and shouldn't be a source of fear; her dystopian future never happens, her brother is alive and she never joins the legends not to talk of getting in a relationship with Nate. It's funny how the two women Nate has gotten in a relationship with have time paradoxes (one is from the past and has a destiny to fulfill there to keep her generation intact and the other is from the future and has gone through a lot of hardship from the government before joining the legends)
Gary's wish to rescue Ray and Constantine from hell is a success.. My best moment in this episode is seeing Vandal Savage playing games with Ray Palmer in hell. Who would have thought of that? πVandal Savage was the first villain the legends encountered in the first season and was sent to torture Ray in hell, but as time will have it, they became buddies. He even told Ray to greet the legends..π The whole climax is Nate surrendering himself to be killed by Neron to bring back Ray as that was the deal keeping Neron in Ray's body. Constantine gladly finishes off Neron and Ray returns only to see his best friend dead, that was an emotional moment and I'm really happy Nate wasn't killed off. He has been a wonderful character on the show since its second season when he ran into Mayor Queen at Star City, re-united the legends with the help of Mick, had his first body reaction to time travel (well, what do you expect when Mick Rory is flying the waverider) ππ
Zari is forced to leave the temporal zone (a place shielding her from the changes to her future) because of Nate's untimely death. Then we had one last appearance from Hank Heywood (more like his spirit), talking to that of his son and then the music number comes in. Music has been another theme of the show that has been greatly explored this season, something that I call "good thinking from the writers". Constantine immediately deduces that the singing should generate enough energy to bring Nate back to life, quite ironic since he once said "it will take more than a musical number to fix everything" in Episode 11. Nate comes back to life and has one final moment with Zari before she is replaced with her brother in the timeline who is now a member of the legends in place of her all along.
Oh I almost forgot the fairy godmother (Tabitha), well she got eaten by the dragon (Wicksty). A dragon that was being used as an object of fear but was stopped by the younger version of Zari who had earlier taken the dragon in as her pet. Her actions are part of what proved that not all magical creatures are to be feared. And now to round it up, the teases for the next season... Astra Logue (the girl Constantine failed to save) plans to restore sixteen soul coins of history's greatest monsters from hell: Joseph Stalin (leader of the Soviet Union), Caligula (known as one of the worst Roman Emperors of all time in history), Mary Tudor, Genghis Khan, Lizzie Borden, John Wayne Gacy, Charles Manson, Grigori Rasputin and eight others. Wow, what a list π³.. Another thing I love about this show is their reference to specific individuals in history such as Barack Obama, Al Capone, Albert Einstein, Ulysses S. Grant, George Lucas, King Arthur, George Washington, Julius Caeser, Helen of Troy, Isaac Newton and Elvis Presley.
The legends as we've seen for four seasons now is a team where its members are constantly changing (new characters always coming in and old ones leaving). Only Sara Lance, Mick Rory and Ray Palmer have been around all through. A show that is full of comedy, weird stuff, time travel, magic and so many twists and turns as the storyline progresses - well folks, that's DC's Legends of Tomorrow not the "Custodians of the Chronology" (GOTG parody) π, not the "Puppets of Tomorrow" and not the "Sirens of Space-Time"..π
