Honestly, this was another 'mixed reaction' episode setting up a finale to look up to. Major events comes down to Cicada II (Grace Gibbons) assembling some devices along with her infamous dagger to kill all the meta-humans in the city, and even the world at large. π
Team Flash tries to stop her from getting all these devices but they are unable to as she's a step ahead of them. Barry and Iris are forced to make a decision they don't like with their daughter (Nora) by allowing her to use her mind connection with Grace to get her current location. That was like their only option though because Grace had everything she needed to kill all the meta-humans. There was a little bit of a reference to the first incarnation of the Justice League animation where Wally West had to run a bomb the Joker planted in Gotham out of the city in less than a second - this time, Barry had to run out of a building that was about to explode in less than a second.. π
There's another reference to X-Men: The Last Stand movie where a cure for the mutants was made and being administered to interested individuals. Kinda similar to Team Flash inviting the meta-humans in Central City to CCPD to receive a free meta-human cure thereby saving them from Cicada's wrath.. Joe West had to step up as the man in charge to maintain order in this kind of situation as it can easily turn to violence and some really bad stuff. At first, he had quite the struggle but he pulls it off after encouragement from Cecile.
Nora's plan works and they get to know Cicada is at CCPD. A fight ensues between Team Flash and Cicada while Cisco has to remove the dagger by hacking into the built "meta-human bomb" with a quantum computer. During this fight, Ralph takes note of Cicada saying "she doesn't need her dagger" and that's when his big hunch clicks.
My moment in this episode was how a part of Eobard Thawne's plan was revealed. It was obvious he was up to something right from the start and I didn't buy his whole "I've changed act" which actually got to Barry and Iris; duh! It's interesting how Ralph Dibny was the one who figured it all out. Well, he doesn't call himself a PI (private investigator for nothing). So Thawne's plan (at least what we know) comes down to timeline manipulation as he had said earlier in one of his conversations with Nora: "the timeline is malleable". He taught Nora how to travel in time where she altered the timeline by helping her dad stop the thinker. That brought about Cicada I (Orlin Dwyer) and Nora ran back to Thawne for help, this leads to Team Flash giving Cicada the cure. Then, a future version of Grace Gibbons, niece to Orlin Dwyer appears as a much more brutal and powerful Cicada and gives Team Flash a whole lot of problems. This is all part of Thawne's plan as his endgame is for Team Flash to destroy Cicada's dagger in their present so that the dagger used to dampen his speedster powers in the future is erased and he'll be able to break off. π₯
Thawne's genius plan is so "good" that he has tied Team Flash to a paradox. At their own point in time, the only way they think they can stop Cicada is to destroy the dagger, but doing this will release the Reverse Flash from his imprisonment in the future - and that is definitely not good. I guess Ralph was right when he said.. "Thawne's plan got plans". And judging from the little bits of information here and there, we might have a life changing DC event to look up to from whatever happens between Team Flash, Cicada and Eobard Thawne. The season finale will be out by next week Wednesday. It's described as: "Barry faces off with his oldest and most formidable nemesis, Reverse Flash"
